Railway bridge under construction in China collapsed, at least twelve dead

Twelve people were killed in the Chinese province of Qinghai when a railway bridge collapsed. Chinese state media report this. Four people are still missing.

The accident happened at a railway bridge under construction over the yellow river in the sparsely populated province. The victims were all working on the bridge.

On camera images you can see how the center of the bridge went at night and for a large part collapsed into the river, 55 meters lower. Chinese media report that one or more of the steel construction cables may have been brightened. This broke a steel beam of 108 meters long. Part of the bridge deck is still dangling on the rest of the construction.

Hundreds of rescue workers were used to search for missing with boats, a helicopter and robots.

The Jianzhabrug is located in the railway line between Qinghai and Sichuan. With a length of 1.6 kilometers, it is the longest double railway bridge in the world.
