Dutchman (71) dead after mountain bike accident in Germany

A 71-year-old Dutchman died in Germany after a mountain bike crash on Friday afternoon.

The man was on a bicycle tour near the town of Schmidt in the Eifel, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. There he fell on a narrow mountain bike path. Attempts to resuscitate him were to no avail.

The man had been cycling with his 34-year-old son when he fell around 11 a.m. Because the accident happened in an inhospitable area, the emergency services had to be transported by quad bikes by the fire brigade, reports the newspaper Aachener Zeitung.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
