Julian Assange has not yet been extradited to the United States

The British High Court has postponed a decision in the long-running case on the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States. Assange will not be extradited until the court makes a decision.

According to the judge, it is unclear what will happen to the whistleblower in the US and whether he will receive a fair trial. As long as that country does not provide guarantees about the treatment of Assange, he will not be extradited. In the US he is suspected of espionage, among other things.

The judges have given the Americans three weeks to guarantee, among other things, that Assange is entitled to the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which enshrines freedom of expression. The court also wants to know whether Assange can receive the death penalty.

If these guarantees are not given, the decision reads, the court will allow Assange to appeal against his extradition.

Assange has been fighting his extradition to the US for years. There he faces a prison sentence of up to 175 years. In 2010, WikiLeaks published a video of American helicopter pilots shooting unarmed Iraqi civilians, including children and two journalists.

It didn’t stop there. In collaboration with international media, WikiLeaks published the contents of hundreds of thousands of classified communications from US diplomatic missions around the world.

His wife, Stella Assange, has become the face of the campaign to free him. She receives support from various human rights organizations, among others.
