Search of the home of the Mannheim attacker
The home of the man who stabbed people yesterday in Mannheim at a meeting of an anti-Islam movement is being searched. His apartment is located in Heppenheim, 40 kilometers from Mannheim. According to German media, it concerns a 25-year-old Afghan man. The motive of the perpetrator is unknown.
The target of the attack was Michael Stürzenberger, a well-known anti-Islam activist. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his face and leg, the organization wrote on its own website. A police officer who was stabbed in the neck is in life-threatening condition.
Video footage shows the perpetrator charging at demonstrators with a knife and stabbing them. A fight ensues. It can be seen that one of the men has a large flesh wound in his leg. Bystanders try to chase away the attacker.
