The Houthis in Yemen confirm that their prime minister and a few ministers were killed in an air raid from Israel. The attack was already last Thursday, near the capital Sanaa. Several ministers and other officials have been injured. Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi is the highest-ranking Houthi leader who has been killed in the past two years due to the air strikes of Israel and the United States.

Al-Rahawi has been Prime Minister of the government-led government since last August. He joined the rebels when they conquered Sanaa and a large part of the north and center of the country in 2014. That was the start of the civil war in the country that is still going on. Al-Rahawi was not the leader of the Houthis: that is Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

The Israeli army reported yesterday that it had hit a military target of the Houthi terrorist regime “in the vicinity of Sanaa. It was already suggested that Al-Rhawi had died in that.

Last week Israel made several attacks around Sanaa. In addition, at least ten people died and dozens of people were injured. The Houthis have announced that they will take revenge for the air raid on Sanaa last Thursday.

Israel and the Houthis

Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel and the Houthis in Yemen regularly have each other with rockets and drones. The Houthis also attack ships on the Red Sea. They say they do that out of solidarity with the Palestinians and ally Hamas. The rebels are supported by Israel’s arch -enemy Iran.

In May, the Houthis confirmed that they had a File in Jemen Bom. The countries agreed that the US would no longer bomb and that the Houthis would leave the ships alone. In addition, the Houthis immediately said that the attacks on Israel, ally of the US, would continue.
