Thousands of people at illegal rave at airport in France

Thousands of people gathered on the runway of an airport in the French city of Quimper this weekend for an illegal rave. The first cars with partygoers arrived on the night from Friday to Saturday. The party is still going on. At 10 a.m., according to the municipality, 8,000 people were present.

The airport in Brittany has not been used for commercial flights since November last year.

The municipality decided on Wednesday to ban unregistered music events during the Easter weekend, after reports circulated about a possible rave, French media report. That didn’t stop partygoers from coming to the site in their thousands.

During the first night, the police confiscated a large amount of sound equipment near the airport, as well as a number of vehicles and a large generator.

The emergency services have placed first aid tents. According to the municipality, 28 people have reported there.
