German media report largest cocaine seizure ever in the country

The German police have carried out the largest cocaine seizure in the country’s history, German media report. This would involve tens of tons of cocaine with a street value of billions of euros. Seven people were arrested.

The German public broadcaster ZDF reports, based on sources from security circles, that most of the drugs were found in the port of Hamburg. That already happened last year, but now there have also been searches in seven states in Germany.

According to the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia, this amounts to a total of 35 tons of cocaine. Authorities will announce more details at a press conference on Monday.

Europol

Yesterday, Europol reported that an internationally coordinated action has led to the roll-up of a cocaine network in Spain. It involved a collaboration between different countries that lasted three years. Germany was also involved.

In the European Drug Report 2024, which was published earlier this week, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands are mentioned as countries with the largest amounts of cocaine intercepted. In 2022, this amounted to a record total of 323 tonnes across the European Union. The Netherlands intercepted 51.5 tons that year, according to the report.
