Deaths by car bomb during Ramadan crowds on Syrian market
At least seven people were killed in Syria when a car bomb went off in a busy market. There were many people present at that time shopping for Ramadan. Around thirty people are said to have been injured.
The explosion took place in the town of Azaz, near the border with Turkey. That area is under the control of rebels who fought against President Assad with the help of Turkey.
The assessment has not yet been claimed. In the past, the Syrian Kurdish militant group YPG has been accused of such attacks. Troops who remained loyal to Assad are also mentioned as possible perpetrators.
A bloody civil war has been going on in Syria since 2011 between the Assad regime and various rebel groups, with or without support from other countries. Terror groups such as IS also contribute to the unrest in the area. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians died in the fighting, hardships and attacks.
