Apartment complex in Russian city of Belgorod partly collapses

Part of an apartment complex has collapsed in the Russian city of Belgorod. Nineteen people were injured, the governor of the region reported on Telegram.

According to him, the collapse was the result of a Ukrainian attack and initially the bottom ten floors of the building partly collapsed. Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed that they carried out an attack on the city.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that it has shot down several Ukrainian missiles. The debris would have damaged the apartment complex.

The Russian state news agency TASS reports that at least five people have been injured. It is feared that there are still people under the rubble. There are Russian media reports of several deaths, but according to the governor, no fatalities have been found yet. Russian authorities report that twelve people have been rescued.

Part of the top floor of the affected apartment complex has now also collapsed, TASS reports. It is unclear whether there were any new victims. Images on social media show how bystanders scatter when the roof collapses.

The Belgorod region has been the target of attacks more often. Yesterday, the governor reported that Ukrainian attacks had left one dead and 29 injured. This morning the governor reported several air raid sirens.
