American news channel Newsmax pays millions for lies about voting fraud
The American conservative (news) channel Newsmax has reached a settlement with voice computer manufacturer Dominion in a defamation store. The news channel pays the company $ 67 million (around 57 million euros).
The channel claimed that President Trump lost the 2020 elections because the result had been manipulated by the company that supplied voting computers.
Dominion sued Newsmax because of those claims in 2021. Documents about internal conversations within the Pro-Trump channel show that employees of Newsmax knew that the claims were incorrect.
The documents also show that employees warned of the conspiracy theories of some guests invited to the channel.

A judge ruled earlier this year that the claims of newsmax were false and incorrect. A jury still had to decide how high the compensation would be.
It didn’t come that far: both parties reached a settlement on Friday.
Earlier, Dominion also sued news channel FOX News for claims that there was fraud with the voting computers in the presidential elections in 2020. Dominion demanded in that case 1.5 billion dollars .
Also in that case the company reached a settlement with the news channel. FOX News then paid $ 787.5 million (more than 675 million euros).
